The impeller is the rotating element of the vertical slurry pump that actually moves the slurry. The slurry enters the impeller centre or eye and by centrifugal force moves the slurry outwards and into the the volute chamber. Wear will show around the eye of the slurry pump impeller which is the point where the slurry enters the impeller via the throat bush. A cutting back of the impeller vane will be evident, also look for wear between the impeller shrouds. Grooving and even holes can found here. A impeller can become unbalanced over time, the evidence of this is when vibration is more noticeable. The worn impeller will also show its self when the performance of the slurry pump fails usually an over flowing feed hopper or cyclone pressures not being achieved. The amps will also be much lower than when the new slurry pump was originally installed.
